Earfun Free Pro 3 wireless earbuds will make you question Apple’s prices

What should it cost to buy a set of wireless noise-canceling earbuds with in-demand features like wireless charging, hi-res audio, and Bluetooth Multipoint? According to Earfun, the answer is $80 — the price of its Earfun Free Pro 3. You can buy them starting October 30 on Amazon.

As the latest generation of Earfun’s Free Pro model, the Free Pro 3 goes all-in on new features while retaining the ultra-compact shape and style that sets the Free Pro apart from larger earbuds. The headlining feature for some Android users is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon Sound compatibility, which brings hi-res audio support via the aptX Adaptive Bluetooth codec and higher-quality voice transmission thanks to aptX Voice.

Earfun says its active noise cancellation (ANC) mode will decrease unwanted sounds by up to 43 decibels with an available anti-wind noise mode. there’s also a transparency mode for hearing external sounds when you need to.

The tiny charging case can be charged wirelessly, and the Free Pro 3 have some decent claimed battery life numbers: up to six hours per charge and 27 total hours when you include the case’s capacity. That’s with ANC turned on. When you turn it off, those number rise to 7.5 and 33 hours, respectively.

Bluetooth Multipoint lets you keep the earbuds connected to two devices simultaneously, and an optional game mode will reduce latency down to about 55 milliseconds, according to Earfun.

With an IPX5 rating for water resistance, the Free Pro 3 should be capable of handling any amount of sweat and rain you care to throw at them, and the Earfun companion app gives you access to a variety of customizations like EQ and being able to change what the touch gestures control.

The Earfun Free Pro 3 go up against some other excellent wireless earbuds in the $80 to $100 price range including the Samsung Galaxy Buds FE, Soundcore Space A40, Soundcore Liberty 4 NC, and Jabra Elite 4.

Marshall updates its noise-canceling earbuds with better battery life

Marshall's second-gen Motif ANC wireless earbuds -- appropriately called the Marshall Motif II ANC -- look exactly like the first-gen Motif, but under the hood are some welcome enhancements like better battery life, better active noise cancellation (ANC) performance, and support for Bluetooth LE Audio. The price, on the other hand, remains the same: you can buy them staring August 29 for $199 on Marshall's website. The company expects them to ship on September 12.

Marshall has a talent for understatement. Its press release for the Marshall Motif II ANC talks about the improved battery life twice -- the new earbuds now get six hours of ANC playtime on a charge and a total of 30 hours with the case (versus 4.5 and 20 on the first-gen) -- but never mentions that the new Motif now have Bluetooth Multipoint for connecting two devices simultaneously.

Beyerdynamic adds noise canceling to its Blue Byrd neckband earbuds

While most of the attention these days is on true wireless earbuds, it's easy to forget that some folks much prefer the older neckband style for its simple convenience and longer battery life. Beyerdynamic clearly hasn't forgotten. Despite launching its first true wireless earbuds in 2022 -- the Free Byrd -- the company is continuing to develop its original Blue Byrd neckband-style buds with the introduction of the second-gen Blue Byrd ANC ($149).

As the name suggests, the new earbuds have active noise cancellation (ANC), a feature that remains fairly rare in the neckband earbuds category. You can buy them now from Beyerdynamic or Amazon.

Montblanc’s first wireless earbuds get a little help from Axel Grell

Montblanc, the iconic maker of luxury writing instruments, is expanding its reach into the audio world with its first set of wireless earbuds. The MTB 03 are small and stylish, with active noise cancellation (ANC) and a design that incorporates the company's instantly recognizable glossy black finish and rounded star motifs. They're available starting July 1 at all Montblanc boutiques and Montblanc.com, for 345 British pounds (about $438).

The MTB 03 benefit from the expertise of Axel Grell, the man behind the development of many of Sennheiser's headphones and earbuds. Montblanc says that Grell was responsible for creating the MTB 03's sound signature. This is a consistent pattern for Montblanc, which partnered with Audeze’s founder, Alex Rosson when it began its audio journey with the MTB 01 wireless ANC headphones, which launched in 2020.
